Hey there, I'm Mika Sly-Umebayashi, a filmmaker, editor and writer.
I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Film & Television) from John Martin Cass Academy. My work thrives on pushing boundaries, embracing the unconventional, diving into the hyper-experimental, but always with a flare of comedy.
My personal work is often shot on HI-8mm film, intricately woven with plastic , creating moving collages that aim to laugh at the world. In addition to my personal work, I've also honed my craft as an Assistant Editor for the renowned Adam Wills.
Together with photographer Tun Than, I showcased our collaborative effort in an exhibition that caught the attention of Matt Sitas, earning a feature on his podcast, "Hung Up."
My work often laughs at the absurdity of the mundane (I love people watching), unravelling stories that challenge perception and beckon viewers into unexplored realms.
